Brought in my grandfather's Seiko that had not run in about twelve years. Krit spent time explaining what he found before touching anything. The watch came back running better than I expected — not factory-new, but alive again. The documentation they provided was thorough. I was not expecting that level of care from a workshop of this size.

Had two batteries replaced and the crown seal on one of them was also renewed — they spotted it needed attention and mentioned it during the assessment rather than just doing it without asking. The total came to a bit more than I had expected, but not by much, and the explanation made sense. Everything has been working fine since.

Found Nakara after asking around for somewhere that could service my ETA movement properly. They gave me the timing results when I collected the watch — something most places in Bangkok do not bother with. Running +4 seconds per day now, which for a watch of this age is quite respectable. Will be back.

My mother's old watch — a small Swiss ladies' piece from the 1960s — had a cracked crystal and had not been serviced in a long time. I was in Bangkok for a week and dropped it off on Monday. They kept it for the antique service which I knew would take longer, sent updates by LINE, and I collected it on my next trip two months later. The result was lovely. The dial was cleaned without being polished away. That kind of restraint is rare.

The service itself was very good. The timing took a little longer than quoted — they called to let me know ahead of the original date, which I appreciated. When I collected the watch they walked me through the service record, which was a nice touch. Would use them again, and have already recommended to a colleague.

Simple battery job — nothing complicated — but they treated it carefully, checked the seal, and had it ready the next morning. I have taken batteries to department store counters and had the case scratched during the process. Nothing of the sort here. Small things matter when you are handing over something you wear every day.

Case Studies

Three watches, three stories

A selection of services that illustrate the range of situations we encounter and how we approach them.

Case Study 01 · Antique Restoration

A 1930s pocket watch, forty years dormant

The Situation

The client inherited a Swiss pocket watch from a great-uncle. It had not run since the 1980s, the case had surface corrosion, and one wheel pinion was visibly bent. The client wanted it working as a keepsake and was open to discussion about the right approach.

Our Approach

After research, we confirmed it was a mid-grade Swiss lever movement from the early 1930s. The bent pinion was replaced with a period-compatible part. Case corrosion was addressed conservatively — cleaned and stabilised without polishing, to preserve the surface character. Full overhaul with lubricants appropriate for older brass alloys.

The Outcome

The watch now runs and keeps reasonable time for a piece of its age — within about 45 seconds a day. The case looks its age in a dignified way. The client attended the handover and spent time asking questions about the movement, which we were happy to answer. The whole process took seven weeks.

"I had no expectation it would actually run again. It does, and it still looks like itself."

Case Study 02 · Service & Timing

An automatic drifting three minutes a day

The Situation

A client brought in a Japanese automatic that he wore daily. It had been running fast — losing accuracy across positions — and was overdue for service. The watch had not been opened in at least eight years.

Our Approach

Full service: disassembly, ultrasonic clean, inspection of the balance staff (found light wear but within tolerance), re-lubrication, and regulation across four positions on the timing machine. Crown seal was also renewed. Total turnaround: two and a half weeks.

The Outcome

Post-service timing: +6 seconds per day dial-up, within +12 / -3 across other positions. The client received the printout with the watch. For a watch of this movement grade, the result was at the better end of what is achievable. He has since brought it back for a battery service on a second watch.

"The timing sheet was a nice touch. I framed it, which tells you how I feel about the result."

Case Study 03 · Battery & Seal

A daily quartz with moisture in the case

The Situation

A client noticed fogging under the crystal of her water-resistant quartz watch. She had worn it swimming. The watch was still running but she was concerned about long-term damage.

Our Approach

On assessment, we found the crown gasket had degraded and moisture had entered the case. Fortunately the movement showed no corrosion — it had been caught early. We dried the case, replaced the cell and all gaskets, and confirmed water resistance to the watch's stated rating after reassembly.

The Outcome

Watch returned to full function with renewed seals. The fogging cleared. We also advised the client on the recommended interval for seal renewal on a watch worn in water — typically every two years or so, depending on use. Total time: three days.

"They explained clearly what had happened and what to watch for in future. That kind of practical advice is useful."
